Cósmica is hosting a fundraising event in support of the water protectors and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in their fight to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. ****ALL proceeds of the event will go directly to the camp. We did a political poster workshop at the Art and Social Activism class at Kingsborough College. It was really cool to make political posters with college students.
April moved back to San Diego a few months ago and was able to exhibit at San Diego Zine Fest this year hosted in Centro Cultural de la Raza! Cósmica took part in a zine fair and donates 20% of their profits to Freedom 2 Live or F2L, an NYC based project fighting prison and police violence.

High Line Teens, an organization that provides several events throughout the year for 14 to 19 year-olds in NYC, invited us to do a workshop at their Artivist Summit. We created a candle-honoring workshop that would teach the teens about different artivists and allow them to create a candle that would honor the spirit of art and activism. The first Betty’s Zine Fest happened in Newark last weekend and it was a blast. It was a girl-power packed event including a majority of womyn-identifying zinesters, artists, and exhibitors. Our friends at La Liga had a fundraiser last month to raise funds for their first zine in print. We exhibited collages, video art, and even an altar installation of little objects of sentimental and cutesy value. We also sold lots of cute zines and merchandise including Drake candles!!! The yearly festival that celebrates the Latino community’s history in the Lower East Side graciously welcomed Cósmica to hold a candle-decorating workshop. We set up a tent and provided a free workshop to anybody wanting to make candles honoring women revolutionaries of New York. Here is the zine Nev Dzamonja created for the workshop.
